Give your COVID comms more warmth

Use design to reassure your staff during the pandemic, not just tell them what to do.

We’ve all struggled to keep up with ever-shifting rules and guidance around workplaces during the pandemic.

All kinds of consumer-facing businesses – supermarkets, shops, pubs, eateries – have had to tackle common design challenges. Socially distanced queuing. One-way systems. Guidance on sanitising, face coverings and more.

At the outset, most of these were reactive, emergency short-term fixes. Now, many brands are evolving bespoke solutions that feel warmer and less clinical.

Consumer perceptions are important, but don’t neglect your staff. Whenever and however your team returns to the office, one thing’s for sure: social distancing and other ‘new normal’ measures aren’t going away anytime soon.

You need a longer-term creative solution to your internal COVID comms that’s goes beyond a functional poster reminding people to wash their hands or stand a certain distance apart.

For months we’ve been bombarded with rules and restrictions. People are exhausted. Rather than just telling them what to do, why not create a design solution that helps them feel safe, secure and supported at work – maybe even raises a smile?

Doing this properly can’t be a one-size-fits-all thing; a generic kit that you can order filled with warning stickers and advisory posters to plaster around the office.

COVID comms are every bit as important as the rest of your internal comms, if not more so. They need to look and sound like your brand.

Different physical spaces also need bespoke signage solutions, just as different brands need their own form of expression. We’re in this for the long-haul: you wouldn’t cut corners when refurbishing your office interior, so why do so here?

Working from home may become the rule rather than the exception for many teams, and for offices that are open flexibility is everything. But that shouldn’t mean diluting your brand voice, or worse, making people feel strange or uncomfortable.

Let’s face it, we’re all in dire need of the exact opposite right now.

So, if you’d like our help adapting your workplace to the COVID era in a nimble yet on-brand way, please let us know!
