We were asked by British Gypsum, the UK’s leading manufacturer of interior lining systems, to update their Thistle plaster packaging. The brief was to increase brand awareness and improve shopability of their comprehensive range of plaster products. Thistle plasters have been used and loved by generations of plasterers. Tradesmen on the job shop for materials quickly and often plaster is ordered by bag colour, so careful consideration was given during the packaging refresh to ensure customers could still easily pick up a bag or two of Thistle MultiFinish often referred to as the ‘orange one.’
British Gypsum divided its products into three ranges; ThistlePro, the performance plasters; the everyday Thistle Essentialrange and the Repair range for patching and filling. Colour was used to help customers navigate the different ranges while still maintaining a strong brand identity.
The hierarchy of messaging is straight to the point, highlighting what the purpose of the plaster is and through simple iconography, how it can be applied. The new design incorporates the recognisable Saint-Gobain Group ‘cartouche’ shape as a holding panel creating a strong brand feel, with great stand out!
